Location: 41 MacKenzie Street, Blackwater , QLD
Job Type: Commercial
Project Duration: 2 April 2024 to 11 April 2024
As part of Queensland Health’s $14 billion Big Build program, the new Blackwater Multipurpose Health Service was designed to consolidate emergency, inpatient, aged care, and outpatient services under one roof. This modern facility replaces the town’s 50-year-old hospital and expands capacity for both acute and long-term care.
Blade Pile was engaged by Hutchies Modular to support the project’s structural works with a tailored, high-performance piling solution suited to the project’s geotechnical and scheduling demands.
Building a modern health facility in a regional setting presents distinct engineering and logistical challenges. The Blackwater site required a high-load foundation system capable of supporting a large, multi-zoned structure across a broad footprint.
With limited access to specialised equipment, fluctuating soil conditions, and a need to maintain a tight schedule ahead of the facility’s staged handover, the foundation scope demanded speed, accuracy, and flexibility. Each pile had to be installed to exact depth and torque specifications, complying with stringent load requirements.
To meet the structural demands, Blade Pile supplied and installed over 275 galvanised 2.0M Blade Piles (114.3 × 6mm shaft with 250 × 8mm blades), with 2.0M extensions, to achieve the required design depths and load capacity.
Our screw piles offered:
Working closely with the construction team, Blade Pile completed the full installation within the 9-day window, meeting all engineering specifications and site constraints.
As a leading piling company in Australia, Blade Pile’s screw pile system provided a precise, engineered foundation that integrated seamlessly with the Blackwater Modular Hospital Redevelopment schedule. Every pile was installed with full torque monitoring to validate capacity in real time, reducing rework and ensuring consistency across zones.
This project highlights the value of screw pile technology in regional health infrastructure: adaptable, fast to deploy, and reliable under pressure. With the facility now operational, Blade Pile’s contribution forms the groundwork for ongoing healthcare delivery for the Blackwater community.
