Screw Piling Applications in Industrial Structures
Let’s talk about industrial construction.
Whether it’s a massive warehouse, a factory, or even a storage tank, one thing’s for sure: you need a solid foundation.
And when it comes to foundations, screw piles are kind of the unsung heroes. They’re versatile, durable, and way easier to work with than you might think.
If you’re working on an industrial project, screw piling could be the solution you’ve been looking for.
Let’s explore the applications of screw piles and why they’re such a big deal in industrial construction.

What’s a Screw Pile?
Let’s start off with the basics. A screw pile is a long, cylindrical steel pipe made to give solid support to residential buildings or commercial infrastructure.
Mechanically twisted into the ground, the Blade Pile design ensures amazing load-bearing capacity, making them perfect for soft, sandy, or rocky soil. Typically, these are chosen over concrete piling because of their smaller environmental impact, quick install, and versatile nature.
How Screw Piles Are Applied to Industrial Projects
So, here’s how screw piles are making waves in industrial construction:
1. Warehouses and Factories
Big buildings need big foundations. Warehouses and factories are no exception. Screw piles are perfect for these kinds of structures because they can handle heavy loads and spread the weight evenly.
And if you’re dealing with tricky soil?
No problem. The Blade Pile design can handle it.
- Quick to install, so your project stays on schedule.
- They work in all sorts of soil conditions.
- They’re super stable, even for massive buildings.

2. Heavy Machinery Foundations
If you’ve got heavy equipment in your facility, you need a foundation that can handle the weight and the vibrations. Screw piles are perfect for this. They can be installed to exact specifications so your machinery stays steady and secure.
- They reduce vibrations, which is a big deal for sensitive equipment.
- They can be installed close to existing structures without causing damage.
- They’re adjustable, so they work even on irregular ground.

3. Storage Tanks and Silos
Storage tanks and silos are a staple in industries like agriculture, oil and gas, and manufacturing. These structures need foundations that can handle both vertical and lateral forces—think wind, seismic activity, or just the weight of the contents. Screw piles are up to the task.
- They resist lateral forces, so your tanks stay put.
- They’re low-maintenance and built to last.
- They can be installed in tight spaces, which is great for crowded industrial sites.

4. Industrial Sheds and Workshops
Not every industrial project is a massive factory. Sometimes, you build a smaller structure like a workshop or storage shed. Screw piles are a great option here too. They’re affordable, easy to install, and perfect for temporary and permanent structures.
- They’re cost-effective compared to traditional foundations.
- They cause minimal disruption to the site.
- They’re versatile enough for all kinds of projects.

5. Infrastructure Projects
Screw piles applications aren’t just for buildings—they’re also used in industrial infrastructure like bridges, access roads, and utility installations. If you’re working in a challenging environment (think unstable or wet ground), screw piles can save the day.
- They’re perfect for tricky ground conditions.
- They can be installed in remote or hard-to-reach locations.
- They reduce the need for heavy excavation, which saves time and money.

Which Screw Pile Type Is Right for You?
When dealing with Industrial construction, you need fast, reliable, and cost-effective solutions. That’s where Blade Pile’s screw piles come in. Here’s why they’re such a big deal:

They’re quick to install. No waiting around for concrete to cure—just screw them in, and you’re done.
Versatile
They’re versatile. Whether you’re dealing with soft soil, rocky terrain, or something in between, screw piles can handle it.
Eco-friendly
They’re eco-friendly. Less waste, less disruption, and they can even be reused if needed.
Cost-effective
They’re cost-effective. Faster installation means lower labour costs, while their durability means fewer repairs down the line.
How to Choose the Right Screw Pile for Your Project
Not all screw piles are the same, so it’s important to pick the right one for your project. Here’s a quick rundown:
- Blade Pile Screw Piles: The all-rounder. Great for most industrial applications.
- Grouted Screw Piles: Need extra strength? These are perfect for high-load projects or loose soils.
- Open Shaft Screw Piles: Ideal for heavy infrastructure like bridges.
- Rock Screw Piles: Built tough for rocky or hard soil conditions.
If you’re not sure which one to choose, don’t stress. Talking to a professional—like our team of piling contractors across Brisbane, Melbourne, and the Gold Coast—can help you figure it out.

Real Industrial Structure Case Studies
Moree Solar Farm – 2015
In NSW’s north sits Moree solar farm, Australia’s largest ‘screw in’ steel piling project to date. Blade Pile supplied 32,000 patented Solar Blade Piles—on time and within budget.
This added 25 years to the life of the structural foundation, and is completely removable, reusable and recyclable, leaving the environment as it was after removal.
Kingsford Smith Drive Freeway Widening – 2018
Brisbane’s heavily used city-to-airport link has also been upgraded with Blade Pile’s expert team.
Widening the freeway required screw piles to be installed in the riverbed, but they needed to be able to handle the toughest conditions.
From river currents to extremely heavy traffic, we collaborated with our client on this project to ensure the strength, reliability, and structural integrity of the freeway.

The Many Applications of Screw Piles
Screw piles are perfect for industrial construction. They’re fast, reliable, and versatile, making them a go-to solution for everything, from warehouses and factories to storage tanks and infrastructure projects.
If you’re planning an industrial project, screw piling could be the foundation solution you’ve been looking for.
